LAGOS, NIGERIA, February 25, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Dolphin Senior High School in Lagos has emerged winners of Sahara Group’s #CleanLoveFeb Chess Competition which was organized as part of the energy conglomerate’s ongoing campaign against substance abuse, especially among young people.

The competition featured two players each from four government owned schools including Dolphin Senior High School, Boys’ Senior Academy, Girls’ Senior Academy and Ebute Elefun Senior High School, all located within Lagos Island.

The chess tourney, according to Bethel Obioma, Head, Corporate Communications, Sahara Group, was designed to serve as a platform to inspire young people to look to sports, books and educative web portals for recreation and academic excellence. “Chess is a game that stimulates mental alertness and critical thinking. We chose public secondary schools to encourage the students to aspire to challenging for laurels in a game that is considered elitist. The competition also served the purpose of creating awareness on the dangers of substance abuse and inspiring these young future leaders to channel their energies into activities that will help them realise their dreams,” he said.

At the preliminary stage which held on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, the four schools competed intensely and played skillfully for over four hours before Dolphin Senior High School and Boys’ Senior Academy made it to the finals.

The finals featured four students from the two schools. Odusanya Isaac of Dolphin Senior High School competed against Olabode Quadri of Boys Senior Academy, while Lediju Abul-Lateef of Dolphin Senior High School played against Amoo Mubarak of Boys’ Senior Academy.

At the end of the competition, both contestants from Dolphin Senior High School outplayed their opponents to emerge as the overall winners of Sahara Group’s #CleanLoveFeb chess competition. Lejidu Abdul-Lateef went on to checkmate his way to claim the coveted Best Player of the Tournament Award.

The elated Abdul-Lateef said: “This is a very happy moment for me, and I am proud of what I have achieved. I also learned a lot from the session we had about substance abuse when Sahara Group brought a Psychiatrist, Dr. Tunde Fadipe to tell us more about saying no to substance abuse in any form. I hope to keep learning and playing the game and possibly end up as a grand master someday.”

All finalists were rewarded with prizes including books, Sahara corporate souvenirs and chess sets to the schools to encourage the cultivation of the chess-playing culture.

The competition which was implemented through Sahara’s Personal and Corporate Social Responsibility vehicle, Sahara Foundation, enlisted the support of the INVENT Programme, a mentoring platform for in- school youth.

The Sahara #CleanLoveCampaign which also includes other activities across the energy giant’s locations in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East continues for the rest of the month of February.

RWE Renewables and Saitec Offshore Technologies test innovative floating platform solution for offshore wind turbines

DemoSATH, a concrete platform hosting a 2 MW turbine, is scheduled for commissioning in autumn 2021

BILBAO, SPAIN, February 25, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — RWE Renewables and Saitec Offshore Technologies have joined forces to test new ways to affordably install and operate offshore wind farms in deep waters. In a joint pilot project called “DemoSATH”, the RWE subsidiary specialising in renewable energy and the Spanish engineering company Saitec Offshore Technologies will start testing a floating platform for wind turbines off the Basque Coast in 2021.

SATH technology is based on a twin hull made of modularly prefabricated and subsequently braced concrete elements. The float can align itself around a single point of mooring according to the wind and wave direction. The objective of the project is to collect data and gain real-life knowledge from the construction, operation and maintenance of the unit. The pilot project will last 3.5 years: 18 months for the planning and construction of the plant, followed by a two-year operating phase.

RWE Renewables CEO Anja-Isabel Dotzenrath declares: “We see great potential for floating wind farms worldwide. RWE Renewables will finance part of the project costs, contribute its many years of offshore experience, and gain access to the resulting findings in return. The focus is on the performance and on the load behaviour of the platform under all possible conditions. In addition, the partners are interested in operational experience, which is essential for the planning of future commercial wind farms. Among the things to be tested are safe and efficient solutions for vessel accessibility to the platform and for the replacement of large components. In order to be able to flexibly adapt offers for offshore wind farms worldwide to local conditions, RWE is testing other technological options for Floating Offshore in addition to SATH.

DemoSATH will be Saitec Offshore’s second project in open waters. In April 2020 the deployment of a scaled 1:6 model off the Coast of Santander is scheduled. For the DemoSATH project, Saitec Offshore Technologies provides the design and Project Management during the whole lifecycle of the development. The company is also managing the operation, maintenance and data treatment during the testing. This enables Saitec Offshore Technologies to capture improvement and optimisation opportunities throughout all phases.

For the large prototype, the structure and the 2 MW wind turbine will be assembled in the port of Bilbao. The base of the structure will be approx. 30 metres wide and approx. 64 metres long. The platform including the turbine will be towed to its anchorage point in a test field (BIMEP)
2 miles off the coast. The sea is about 85 metres deep at this point. Hybrid mooring lines, composed by chains and fibre, anchored to the seabed will hold the floating body in position. The plant is expected to go into operation in the third quarter of 2021. The electricity generated during the project will be fed into the Spanish power grid.

Horizon, GOLDI Mobility and Hy-Hybrid Energy Move Forward with GOLDiON® Project

BUDAPEST, HUNGARY, February 25, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Representatives from Horizon Fuel Cell Group (Horizon), GOLDI Mobility Kft (GOLDI) and Hy-Hybrid Energy (Hy-Hybrid) met together to discuss Phase-2 and Phase-3 of the GOLDiON® project, which will establish manufacturing of fuel cell buses in Hungary.

GOLDI hosted a meeting on 21st Feb 2020 with the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA) to discuss their plans for local manufacturing and large-scale deployment of fuel cell buses in Europe. The meeting was attended by Mr. Peter Szabo (Senior Consultant, HIPA), Mr. Patrik Toth (Consultant, HIPA), Mr. Craig Knight (CEO, Horizon), Dr. Naveed Akhtar (CEO, Hy-Hybrid Energy), Mr. Ferenc Kovacs (CEO, GOLDI Mobility) and the GOLDI management team.

HIPA is the national investment promotion agency governed by the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. It provides management consulting services to interested companies free of charge in an end-to-end, one-stop-shop model, supporting them in selecting a business location, providing tailor made incentive schemes and information on state aid issues. Besides this, HIPA also aims to link potential financial and strategic investors with Hungarian projects requiring investment, handling a continuously growing database.

GOLDI has previously announced their plans for fuel cell bus deployments in Europe by executing:

a) Prototype Phase-1: First 18 m prototype fuel cell bus deployment in Hungary
b) Roll-Out Phase-2: Procurement of multiple fuel cell drivetrains and assembly of 12m and 18m fuel cell buses in Hungary for roll-out to EU
c) Drive Train Assembly Phase-3: Local assembly of fuel cell drivetrains in Hungary with the goal of significantly reducing the cost of 12m and 18m fuel cell buses to be deployed across the EU.

While Phase-1 of the project is moving forward smoothly, a meeting was arranged with relevant parties to discuss Phase-2 and Phase-3 of the project. During the meeting, Mr. Ferenc Kovacs, CEO, GOLDI Mobility presented the detailed project plan to HIPA’s Budapest based team members, who worked closely with HIPA personnel in Singapore to coordinate the collaboration between Horizon and GOLDI. The attendees welcomed the strong support by HIPA for promoting the project and agreed to work together on a commercial model which will support the local manufacturing of fuel cell buses in Hungary.
