ZAF Energy Systems Raises $22 Million From Key Strategic Investors

ZAF Energy Systems Headquarters

ZAF raises funds to speed the commercialization of nickel-zinc battery in the data storage, industrial equipment, transportation, healthcare and defense markets

ZAF’s environmentally friendly batteries are going to change the way the industry views cost effective energy storage. For too long energy storage has been the 'Achilles Heel' of the energy industry.”

— Gen Fukunaga, CEO of Coventry Asset Management

JOPLIN, MISSOURI, UNITED STATES, April 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — ZAF Energy Systems Inc. (ZAF), a developer of next-generation battery technologies, announced today that it has completed recent capital raise. Included in the $22 million Series A funding round were investments from institutional and strategic investors including Élevage Capital Management, Catalus Capital, Holt Ventures, and Coventry Asset Management. ZAF will use the funds to accelerate the commercialization and adoption of its nickel-zinc (NiZn) battery technology and expand its manufacturing capacity.

The company will use the investment to meet the growing customer demands of its NiZn technology in key markets like the large-scale data storage, telecommunications, healthcare, and commercial trucking industries that are in need of powerful, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly battery solutions. ZAF is also currently working with three segments of the US Department of the Defense on energy storage solutions that where the NiZn batteries provide significant performance enhancements over current solutions. Funding will further enable ZAF to accelerate licensing and joint venture negotiations and to commercialize NiZn batteries with both domestic and international strategic partners.

Demand for ZAF’s NiZn technology as a replacement for lead-acid batteries in key market segments continues to grow. ZAF’s NiZn chemistry can reduce the footprint of lead acid data center UPS systems by 40% and because NiZn lasts over twice as long as lead acid, it will reduce the number of batteries consumed by up to 75%. ZAF’s NiZn battery also yields twice the energy density of lead-acid batteries at less than a quarter of the cost, making them smaller, lighter and less expensive. ZAF’s NiZn batteries use sustainable, abundantly available materials that are both fully recyclable and non-toxic to the environment in disposal situations, providing long-life and economical solutions for many applications.

Gen Fukunaga, CEO of Coventry Asset Management and the founder and former CEO of Funimation Entertainment which brought anime to the US and Canadian entertainment markets remarked, “I look for innovative products that match with industry-changing trends. My belief is that ZAF’s environmentally friendly batteries are going to change the way the industry looks at cost effective energy storage. For far too long energy storage has been the “Achilles Heel” of the energy industry. I am excited to be a part of this ground-breaking technology.”

Meg Paulus, Partner at Holt Ventures, commented, “We at Holt Ventures focus on investments that have the potential to disrupt the current way of doing things within the heavy equipment landscape, including at our own Caterpillar dealership. We constantly look for ways that our businesses can be more environmentally friendly and at the same time focus on profitability and efficiency. The nickel zinc battery not only out-performs the lead acid battery exponentially, it provides an eco-friendly alternative to an environmental problem experienced around the globe, while still providing vastly superior energy storage capacity for our future needs”

3CR-Riverbend Capital Advisors, Dallas, TX led the ZAF Series A Capital Raise. Randy Moore, President and CEO of ZAF said, “I want to thank all our investors and the folks at 3CR-Riverbend who really came through for us and have been a pleasure to work with. The addition of institutional and strategic funding, together with our recent contract awards, have provided sufficient funds to accomplish our objectives.”

Is the Higher Cost of Synthetic Oil Worth it—New TestOil Webinar Explains

TestOil Industrial Oil Analysis

TestOil just produced a webinar overview of synthetic oils. The webinar explains the differences between synthetic and mineral-based oils and their properties.

— TestOil President Mary Messuti

CLEVELAND, OHIO, U.S., April 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — TestOil, one of the top oil analysis labs in the world, just produced a webinar overview of synthetic oils. The webinar explains the differences between synthetic and mineral-based oils, their properties, strengths and weaknesses. Webinar presenter, TestOil’s Senior Technical Advisor Evan Zabawski, goes over some key points here.

While synthetic oil can be significantly more expensive than mineral-based oil, in some circumstances the additional cost is justified. Zabawski said, “Synthetic can be worth the cost in large industrial equipment–less downtime, because less degradation–or anywhere a balance can be tipped in favor of longer drain intervals or improved energy efficiency. It can make a difference in performance, but sometimes it is so slight as to not warrant the cost.”

As far as oil analysis goes, synthetic oil needs to be tested just as frequently as mineral-based oil. While synthetic is less susceptible to degradation, both oils in the same environment are subject to the same level of contamination—a primary reason for regular oil analysis.

Contamination is an issue with all fluid, but it is especially significant in industries such as mining, construction and any that involve grinding, milling or crushing product.

“Regular oil analysis is important because it isn’t just about the oil, it’s also about the contamination getting into the machine and changes in wear,” Zabawski said. “Most people use oil analysis for machine condition, not just lubricant condition, but even in the case of the latter they understand sampling frequency still needs to have enough data points to trend properly.”

The tests for synthetic fluids are the same as mineral-based. In addition to contamination, these tests include Acid Number, MPC (varnish), RPVOT, RULER, etc.
As far as drain intervals, they can be extended for some types of synthetic oils, but this is not always the case. It depends on the applications and what drives the oil change frequency—degradation or contamination.

TestOil has been testing both synthetic and mineral-based industrial lubricants for 30 years. The company has a number of industry experts on staff, such as Zabawski, that are qualified to answer questions on oil analysis, testing procedures and program setup.

TestOil President Mary Messuti said, “TestOil is the leading source for those seeking expert advice on oil analysis. Anyone is welcome to call, email us and explore the Knowledge Center on our website. We are here to help. “

Technology ‘Rescues’ Weekly TV Show

Llewellyn King, Host, “White House Chronicle”

Remote Production Extends Its Reach

We are not running repeats: We are on the news, where we should be. Journalistic through and through.”

— Llewellyn King, Host, "White House Chronicle"

WASHINGTON, D.C., USA, April 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — While many weekly television shows have suspended production, due to the difficulty of producing during the COVID-19 crisis, “White House Chronicle,” a long-running news and public affairs show on PBS, SiriusXM Radio and other broadcast outlets, is very much in production, airing fresh episodes every week.

Executive Producer and Host Llewellyn King said, “Technology has come to our rescue, and it has been exciting to produce episodes remotely. Whereas we used to produce episodes either in-studio or using full crews on-site, we can now do so entirely on computers, bringing in guests from wherever the news is.”

In a recent episode, marking the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, Preeti Srivastav, an energy consultant with Guidehouse, a global consultancy, joined in from Amsterdam. Also in that episode, Charmian Proskauer, an advocate for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (commonly known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), a disease that shuts in its victims for life, joined in from Boston.

The episode which will air beginning May 1 deals with the rise of a new generation of leaders who international lawyer Clinton Vince, who is hunkered down on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, says are coming from states and cities. Vince characterizes them on the episode as “subnational” players.

Later in the episode Jarrod Hazelton, a University of Chicago-educated economist working in Rhode Island, discusses the gig economy — and the need, as he sees it, for a new Works Progress Administration, modeled on the one created by Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1935. Hazelton predicts there will be many millions of Americans needing work as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

King said, ”We are a bit like the famous revue theater, The Windmill, in London’s Soho which remained open throughout the Blitz of 1940 to 1941 and was able to boast ‘We Never Closed.’ We are not running repeats: We are on the news, where we should be. Journalistic through and through.”

To learn more about “White House Chronicle,” visit the program’s website whchronicle.com or call Llewellyn King at (202) 441-2702.

Stations interested in carrying the program can download it either from the PBS satellite or free of charge from PEGMedia.org http://www.pegmedia.org/

“White House Chronicle” has been on air for 23 years and aims to cover the news as it affects the “way we live now.” The weekly program has taken a special interest in technology’s impact on national policy.

— Cash McCloy, VP of Sales for Custom Dredge Works

TUCKAHOE, NEW JERSEY, USA, April 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — The electric powered dredge utilizes a Cutterhead and an Underwater Pump design on an 85-foot ladder that is capable of mining sand and gravel at depths up to 62 feet when the ladder is at a 60-degree angle. The Toshiba electric motor that powers the dredge greatly reduces air, water and noise pollution versus traditional diesel-powered dredges.

Tuckahoe Sand & Gravel, which is a subsidiary of Johnston Enterprises, produces concrete sand and also has a distinguished reputation as one of the largest suppliers of high-quality Golf Course Sand on the US east coast.

Tuckahoe S&G acquired this new dredge to substantially increase their annual mining production. They chose Custom Dredge Works to design and manufacture their new dredge since Custom Dredge Works is widely recognized as the leading dredge manufacturer in the US Aggregate Mining Industry today. Tuckahoe’s Plant Manager, Ron Sutton, has expressed great satisfaction in the increased production output they are achieving with their new Cutter Suction Dredge. A video of the new dredge can be seen on the Home page of Tuckahoe’s web site (http://www.tuckahoesand-gravel.com).

CDW President, John Jones commented, “I was personally involved in every aspect of the design and construction of this new dredge from early design concepts through completion. I am extremely proud of the finished product and the very positive results it is achieving for our client.”
