Iran Warns of Potential Summer Blackouts Amid Rising Energy Demand
According to reports, government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said on Tuesday that the extent of potential blackouts cannot be precisely predicted, as it largely depends on public usage patterns and cooperation with conservation efforts.
“The possible scale of power cuts during the coming hot days cannot be accurately forecast and depends directly on consumption patterns and public cooperation,” she said in remarks carried by a media outlet.
She added that Iran’s power system should be evaluated from both production capacity and the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen energy infrastructure.
According to reports, authorities have been working to expand electricity generation capacity, upgrade power plants, improve grid infrastructure, invest in renewable energy sources, and modernize existing production units to better meet peak demand.
Mohajerani also cautioned that excessive or “abnormal” consumption could threaten energy security for both households and industrial sectors.
“The president has also emphasized the same principle: If each person can cut electricity consumption by 10%, the situation will improve,” she said, highlighting the government’s appeal for public cooperation to reduce strain on the system.
